The premise
Leo Miller has a system for surviving middle school without being noticed. Unfortunately, he is permanently attached to Shade — a sentient, arrogant, chaos-loving shadow who thinks Leo is just his sidekick.
Then the Umbra shows up. Nightmares spill into real life. And the only thing powerful enough to stop them might be the worst teammate imaginable.
